Program details
The 3D Modeling and Design Drafter program is a 36-week, 1260-hour course. It is also available via distance education and hybrid models with training on how to use Zoom and Canvas LMS. This course provides comprehensive training for both experienced CAD users and students with little or no previous CAD or computer experience, giving them the skills and training they need to enter todays competitive job market and start their careers in 3D design and fabrication fields such as architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), and manufacturing. This comprehensive hybrid course combines the training elements of the Computer-Aided Design Drafter and SolidWorks Drafter programs. The course covers two-dimensional geometric construction and three-dimensional solid modeling using AutoCAD and SolidWorks, the industry-standard softwares. As a part of their training they will be able to download free, licensed student versions of the software directly from the software makers so they can keep learning outside of class. The course also includes Manual Drafting, a critical part of the design process, as well as computer operating system, word processing, and computer spreadsheet graphics basics. Students also learn about 3D printing by designing a part using the software skills that theyve mastered and then creating a physical model using the in-class Rapid Prototyping 3D printer. When they complete the course curriculum, students will be able to take both the AutoCAD Certified Professional (ACP) and Certified SolidWorks Associates (CSWA) exams. These professional certifications serve as benchmarks on which students can measure their expertise, as well as proof of their mastery of the latest cutting-edge software being used by the 3D design and fabrication industries. Students will also attend career workshops that cover soft-skills, resume writing, job searching, and interview techniques, including sitting for a mock interview.
