This program provides in-person instruction only.
This course prepares students to assist elderly, disabled and ill persons and the roles and responsibilities of a caregiver. Training also includes communication skills, maintenance of a healthy environment, procedures for emergencies, physical, emotional and developmental characteristics of the consumers served, personal hygiene, safe transfer techniques and basic nutrition. There is also a career development component where students are provided career preparation , exploration of career fields and employment opportunities. Resume writing, cover letter, interview skills, the use of the Internet for career exploration and the development of a employment portfolio are also included.
