This competency-based course emphasizes the skills and knowledge necessary for students to succeed in health informatics occupations where the duties include medical word formation, analysis, spelling, pronunciation, abbreviation, and applications. An overview of healthcare specializations, case reports, body systems, clinical/diagnostic/surgical procedures, pathological conditions and medications. Practice in the use of medical dictionary and other medical reference books. Legal and ethical issues of electronic recording and filing, processing and using forms, reports, correspondence and financial records, operations of healthcare equipment and software. These competencies are aligned with the California high school academic content standards.
